The film focuses on the plight of Sarbjit’s family as they try everything to free him from jail. The film also showcases life inside Pakistani jails and how inmates are treated. According to reports, Sarbjit was kept in solitary confinement for 19 years in a room so cramped he couldn’t even stand upright. He was eventually killed by other jail inmates in April 2013. Based on the trailer, the film exposes the injustice and torture suffered by Sarbjit and his family. Both Randeep and Aishwarya give steller performances. Watch the trailer below!

When asked about her decision to take on the role of Dalbir, Aishwarya said this. “When Omung Kumar (the director of the film) came to me with the subject, it was an immediate yes. How can we walk away from telling such a story? This story needed to be told.” As for how she prepared to play Dalbir, Aishwarya revealed she had met the real Dalbir during the making of the film. She didn’t want to meet her before the making of the film as she wanted to stay true to the vision Omung had for her role. “When I am playing real life chartacters, it is important for me to stay true to the director’s vision and narrative.”

The film will be available on screen on May 20, 2016.
