A sign of the modern monarchy?

Prince William has revealed his latest cover and it’s not like his past magazine covers. The prince will be seen on the cover of UK’s Attitude magazine, making him the first royal member to be featured on the cover of a gay publication.

Last week he invited staff from Attitude magazine along with 9 members from the LGBT community to Kensington Palace to hear about their experiences being bullied over their sexual orientation and gender identity. William along with his wife Kate Middleton have been very active in raising awareness of mental health resources and encouraging more programs to be offered in the community.

After the meeting and posing for the cover, William released this statement. “No one should be bullied for their sexuality or any other reason and no one should have to put up with the kind of hate that these young people have endured in their lives. The young gay, lesbian, and transgender individuals I met through Attitude are truly brave to speak out and to give hope to people who are going through terrible bullying right now. Their sense of strength and optimism should give us all encouragement to stand up to bullying wherever we see it. What I would say to any young person reading this who’s being bullied for their sexuality: don’t put up with it—speak to a trusted adult, a friend, a teacher, Childline, Diana Award or some other service and get the help you need. You should be proud of the person you are and you have nothing to be ashamed of.”

We all know William gets massive attention in whatever he does so to use that attention for such an important cause, it’s really wonderful to see. You know you hear so many stories about the British royals being very set in their ways and old fashioned but it’s nice to see that the older members of the royals are embracing modern times. You know William can’t do anything without the Queen’s blessing so she had to sign off on this and what timing. William had posed for the magazine cover and held the meeting prior to the June 8 shooting in Orlando where 49 LGBT people lost their lives. The tragedy in Orlando is an example of the hatred and violence still experienced every day around the world by members of the LGBT community and if anything good can come from this, let it be that more people will raise their voices and address the issue of intolerance that still very much exists and how more needs to be done to protect the LGBT community.

The magazine will be available on newsstands this week on June 22.
